As Vice President of Charitable Giving Services, Cal Lyons directs MSTC’s Smartdonor™ program, which is unique in the securities industry. This program helps clients to use smart strategies when making gifts to charity and when establishing their estate plans, as well as working with a variety of not-for-profits to help them raise more money for their missions and causes.
A graduate of Judson University in Elgin, Ill., Cal holds his FINRA Series 7 and 66 licenses and his state Life and Health Insurance licenses. In addition, he has 16 years of experience as a college administrator prior to his transition to the financial industry. As a college vice president he earned his Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) certification and led efforts to raise millions of dollars for scholarships, endowments and capital building campaigns. He has made use of that experience to develop the Smartdonor™ program, with the goal of closing the gap between donors who want to be better stewards of their assets and charities who want to provide the best possible donor experience for their supporters.
Cal was raised in Hanna City, Ill., but now lives in Eureka with his wife, Joni. He has three married daughters and six wonderful grandchildren. Cal has served as a past-president of the Peoria Sunrise Rotary Club and is a past board member of the Peoria Heights Chamber of Commerce. He and his wife are active in their local church. Cal is also a current board member of the Central Illinois Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, a board member of the Central Illinois Charitable Gift Planners, and a member of the Estate Planning Council of Central Illinois.
In his spare time, Cal likes to get outdoors, go fishing and spending time with family. His favorite team is the St. Louis Cardinals and he likes to attend a game every now and then. He has learned to adapt to being in a blended family – some of them are Cubs fans.
